Dear SSE Riga Community,

I kindly welcome everyone to the start of the new academic year 2020/2021. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new students of the Class of 2023 who have joined our family today.

Obviously, this year differs from others and, unfortunately, our staff and faculty members are not able to congratulate you in person. In our experience, however, these circumstances present opportunities for innovations, creative solutions and learning of new skills.

Changes may come in our academic journey due to the need to adapt teaching and socializing activities at the SSE Riga to comply with social distancing guidelines. We will start by offering a blend of on-campus and online learning to ensure you have a consistent and high-quality experience. Please note that the number of students we can accommodate at the SSE Riga auditoriums has to comply with the current Latvian government guidelines, setting a maximum of 30 persons who can physically attend one lecture/seminar. However, faculty members are constantly looking to improve their remote lectures, and your constructive feedback is always welcome. We will do our utmost to provide you with a good mix of online and in-person activities until we can return to our regular mode of on-site teaching.

I am deeply grateful to our staff and faculty for navigating this new road so efficiently. I am delighted about how positively our students have responded to the situation. I am thrilled to observe how our attitude during the new circumstances still maintains a supportive and encouraging learning environment that is common to the SSE Riga.

Welcome back and I wish you all a great year!

Sincerely,
Anders Paalzow
SSE Riga Rector
