IMPACTWHEEL Project: Advancing innovation capacity beyond Phase 1
The IMPACTWHEEL project aims to enhance the entrepreneurial and innovation capacity of higher education institutions (HEIs) across Europe, while strengthening links with regional innovation ecosystems. Funded by the EIT Higher Education Initiative, the project brings together partners from seven European countries
At its core is the Value Creation Wheel (VCW) methodology, which supports the transformation of ideas into practical, market-ready solutions through training, workshops, and collaboration activities. It enables structured problem-solving and value creation across partner institutions.
SSE Riga plays a key role in the IMPACTWHEEL project, leading efforts to strengthen partnerships for deep tech innovation and supporting knowledge transfer between academia and industry. By leveraging its expertise in entrepreneurship education and innovation management, SSE Riga contributes to developing tools, networks, and training activities that help transform research into practical, impactful solutions.
A key part of the project is collaboration through onsite meetings held in Carcavelos (June 2025), Riga (September 2025), Torino (December 2025), and Pamplona (March 2026). These meetings strengthen partnerships, enable knowledge exchange, and ensure alignment across the consortium. The next meeting will take place in July 2026 at the University of St Andrews, alongside ongoing training activities across partner institutions.
During Phase 1 (April 2025 to December 2025), SSE Riga successfully delivered three targeted training and mentoring events, engaging students, academic staff, and non-academic staff. A total of 185 students participated in training activities, significantly exceeding the initial target. In addition, 4 students received mentoring support, helping strengthen their entrepreneurial skills and mindset. Engagement from academic staff was also strong, with 5 staff trained and 3 mentored, while 1 non-academic staff member was trained and 1 mentored, contributing to broader institutional capacity building.
While no new start-ups, partnerships, or intellectual property outputs were recorded during this phase, the activities significantly strengthened competencies, mentorship structures, and future innovation potential. Overall, Phase 1 exceeded expectations in participation and capacity-building outcomes, providing a strong foundation for the next stages of the project.
IMPACTWHEEL continues to support the development of skills, ideas, and innovation practices, helping turn knowledge into impact.
