Magnifica Humanitas: Human Perspectives on AI

Monday, July 6, 2026, 18:00 – 20:00
SSE Riga

As artificial intelligence continues to transform society, questions about human dignity, autonomy, responsibility, and the future of humanity have become increasingly important. This event explores these questions through the lens of Magnifica Humanitas: On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence, published by Pope Leo XIV in May 2026.

Open to the public, the event welcomes students, academics, professionals, policymakers, and anyone interested in the human dimensions of artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how we live, work, learn, and make decisions. As AI systems become increasingly integrated into society, questions about human dignity, autonomy, responsibility, and the common good have moved to the centre of public debate.

Magnifica Humanitas: On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence is the document that has attracted significant attention within the international AI community and beyond, offering a thought-provoking reflection on the relationship between technological innovation and the human condition.

What is the background of this document? Why has it sparked discussion across disciplines and sectors? And how can it inspire us to think more deeply about the opportunities, risks, and responsibilities associated with artificial intelligence?

On July 7, SSE Riga will host a panel of distinguished experts who will explore these questions from a variety of perspectives, including ethics, law, theology, cultural heritage, cognition, management, and business.

The discussion will feature:

  • Dmitrijs Kravčenko, Associate Professor, SSE Riga
  • Dagnija Baltiņa, Director, Latvian National Library
  • Žanete Narkēviča, Philosopher and Vice-Director, Riga Branch of the Lateran Pontifical University
  • Vija Kalniņa, AI Ethics, Law & Governance expert and Director of the Boundaries of Tolerance Research Initiative
  • Iveta Kažoka, Legal and Policy Analyst, Associated Researcher at Providus, and doctoral researcher on AI in legislation
  • Oksana Sivokobiļska, Chairperson of the Board, MILA – Latvian Association of Artificial Intelligence

The discussion will be moderated by Natalie Cernecka, PhD, AI expert.
