Future Leaders Academy
This programme is designed for young people who link their future with the development of Latvia and the world, want to meet likeminded young people and experts, and are ready to develop their leadership and communication skills.
Future Leaders Academy 2020 - Application is Open
The “Future Leaders Academy” is a programme held at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga), organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden in Latvia, and with support from the Swedish Institute.
Dates for the five modules of the Future Leaders Academy 2020 will be:
September 11-13, September 18-20, October 2-4, October 16-18, and October 30-November 1.
Application deadline for 2020 is August 1.
Applicants will be notified of the selection committee decision by mid-August.
Purpose and Aim
The aim of the programme is to educate, inspire and develop the leadership potential of future Latvian political and community leaders.
The intended purpose is the increased political activity of future Latvian leaders who will be willing and able to speak about issues of concern, gather popular support for reforms, and propose new solutions to local and global problems facing Latvia currently and in the near future.
By bringing together talented young leaders from all over Latvia, giving them an opportunity to meet and develop ideas amongst themselves, and by further introducing them to current Latvian experts and politicians, the aim is to help them grow their contact networks for future success.
Participants and Selection
Candidates have to submit an electronic application on the SSE Riga website, including their CV and a short motivation video. Twenty participants for the programme are selected each year. Programme participants have ranged in age from 18-27. For each class of the Future Leaders Academy, the selection committee strives for diversity in terms of gender, ethnicity, and regional background.
Format and Lecturers
The programme is held over five weekends.
Previous notable speakers have included the former President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, Speaker of the Saeima Ināra Mūrniece, Minister of Economics Ralfs Nemiro, former Minister of Finance Dana Reizniece-Ozola, former Minister of Economics Daniels Pavļuts, founder of Ir.lv Pauls Raudseps, and founder of Re:Baltica Inga Spriņģe.
Training modules have been hosted by business etiquette specialist Irma Kalniņa, LTV journalist Ilze Dobele, founder of Quo Tu Domā? Mārtiņš Vaivars, European Public Speaking Champion 2017 Dāvis Golds and others.
In the final module, the FLA participants have the opportunity to present their vision for the future of Latvia.
