SSE Riga joins EIT-funded IMPACTWHEEL initiative to drive innovation in higher education
SSE Riga is proud to be one of six universities selected for the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Higher Education Initiative funded IMPACTWHEEL project, awarded under the 2024 Call for Proposals. The project aims to strengthen universities’ capacity to innovate, collaborate, and deliver real-world impact.
Aligned with the Smart Specialization Strategies and the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme, the IMPACTWHEEL initiative focuses on building competencies and creating high-impact solutions to address global and societal challenges. The project seeks to translate academic knowledge into market-ready solutions, boosting existing businesses and enabling the creation of high-tech companies designed to disrupt and solve pressing market needs. As part of this mission, the consortium will also reinforce the development of deeptech across participating regions.
To maximise impact, the consortium brings together partners from across Europe, including Italy, Latvia, North Macedonia, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, and the United Kingdom. These partners offer local knowledge and regional insights from academia, research, business, and innovation. Partners include:
Six universities: Universidade da Beira Interior with UBImedical Incubator, Universidad Pública de Navarra, University of St. Andrews American Foundation, Inc., Rīgas Ekonomikas augstskola – Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, University “Goce Delcev” at Štip, and Unimercatorum
Two intermediary organisations: NOVA FORUM (Instituto de Formação de Executivos da UNL) and CEIPIEMONTE s.c.p.a.
Two companies with strong backgrounds in innovation and entrepreneurship: ambiom and INOVA+
SSE Riga will contribute its expertise in entrepreneurship, innovation, and knowledge transfer and will play a key role in enabling the academic community to engage more actively with the business sector.
The project is coordinated by the University of Beira Interior through its UBImedical Incubator.
By joining the international IMPACTWHEEL project, SSE Riga strengthens its commitment to innovation and the role of higher education in Europe, aiming to equip students, faculty, and entrepreneurs with the skills and support needed to transform research into real-world solutions.
