COVID-19: SSE Riga closed for on-site educational activities
The health and safety of students and staff is our top priority. As we all monitor the headlines regarding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) it has become clear that responsible action is necessary.
On March 12, the Latvian Government announced state of emergency and issued a decision to stop educational activities in highschools and universities during the period March 13 - April 14, 2020.
On April 7, the Latvian Government extended state of emergency until May 12, 2020, all restrictions stay in place and no educational activities involving physical presence, e.g. lectures, seminars, presentations and exams will take place at SSE Riga during this period and the School will be closed for students.
The educational activities will be rearranged and to the extent possible classes will go digital and involve more of self-studies and individual assignments.
On-site lectures are suspended, but the study process will proceed according to the updated schedule. The study process will be organized using various digital tools - Google Meet, Zoom, E-learning platform and Skype. SSE Riga staff is working remotely (regular office hours) ensuring that all operations are continued.
Restrictions
Latvia temporarily suspends international air, road, sea and railway passenger traffic effective March 17. All travellers returning to Latvia from abroad with special repatriation services have to self-isolate for a period of 14 days. Persons in need of consular assistance can call the Consular Department on the emergency number: +371 26 33 77 11 or email palidziba@mfa.gov.lv.
Regardless of the number of participants all public events are cancelled and prohibited. The museums, theatres and cinemas are closed. Many shops are closed to reduce the risk of the spread of the coronavirus. The principle of "maximum social distancing" should be applied.
Hygiene and Prevention
- Wash your hands frequently and use antibacterial gel if needed
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or a sleeve when you cough/sneeze
- Avoid touching your face
- Avoid shaking hands
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- Keep a safe, 2 metre distance from other in public areas

If you have severe symptoms (feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing), call 113 and identify your symptoms and travel history/contact history to the dispatcher.
If your symptoms are mild, call 8303 to arrange laboratory testing.
