TeliaSonera Institute
The TeliaSonera Institute is a think tank with the aim to promote and undertake high quality policy-oriented research in the fields of entrepreneurship, telecom and information technology as well as to promote entrepreneurship in Latvia.
The Institute regularly publishes reports and discussion papers in the fields of entrepreneurship, telecommunications and information technology. Research-wise the Institute also closely cooperates with with the Baltic International Centre for Economic Policy Studies (BICEPS) in its research activities.
To develop Latvia's research capacity within the field, the Institute supports young scholars as well.
The Östen Mäkitalo award for telecom pioneers
In memory of his great achievements, TeliaSonera has instituted a scholarship, The Östen Mäkitalo Award. The scholarship will be given to entrepreneurs and scientists who have pioneered the telecom field and who we believe have the same potential as Östen Mäkitalo had – a potential that could change the way we live. The Östen Mäkitalo Award will be given annually, alternating between an entrepreneur and a researcher every other year. In addition to academic and public recognition for their achievements, they will receive a scholarship amounting to SEK 100,000. The Östen Mäkitalo Award will be administered by the TeliaSonera Institute at the Stockholm School of Economics.
