For one week, millions of young people around the world join a growing movement of entrepreneurs to generate new ideas and to seek better ways of doing things. Countries across six continents come together to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), an initiative to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity. To think big. To turn their ideas into reality. To make their mark.
Each November, Global Entrepreneurship Week connects young people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. Students, educators, entrepreneurs, business leaders, employees, non-profit leaders, government officials and many others participate in a range of activities, from online to face-to-face, and from large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings.
This is the second time Latvia is participating in Global Entrepreneurship Week. Although it started on a small scale last year, it made a difference – at least four businesses were launched following the 2010 GEW activities in Latvia.
The 2011 GEW activities have been developed along two directions. One is to reach out to the youngest generation – our future entrepreneurs. Here there are two targeted activities: the Junior Achievement Latvia Creative Ideas Competition: “The other Hollywood” and the “E-ship Success Stories”. For the more seasoned entrepreneurs-to-be there is the Garage 48 event, where there are expected to be several ideas living up to the motto: “from idea to working service in 48 hours”.
Through this initiative, the next generation of entrepreneurs is inspired and can emerge. In the process, they will begin to acquire the knowledge, skills and networks needed to develop innovative, sustainable enterprises that have a positive impact on their lives, their families and communities. The GEW 2011 in Latvia, organized by the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, as well as in the other 119 participating countries, will be a week of “Unleashing Ideas”. Take a step towards your future.
