This past weekend, culminating in their presentation at the conversation festival LAMPA, the 2018 class of the “Future Leaders Academy” graduated from the programme.
The “Future Leaders Academy” is a programme organized by the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga)in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden in Latvia, and with the support from the Swedish Institute. It is a five weekend programme, aimed at educating, inspiring, and developing the leadership potential of future Latvian political and community leaders from all over Latvia. This year, the twenty participants of the academy represented the cities of Olaine, Ogre, Jelgava, Ventspils, Valmiera, Rēzekne, Jūrmala and Rīga.
During the five weekends, the participants had the chance to meet with politicians representing almost all the parties currently in the Latvian parliament Saeima, including the speaker of the Saeima Ināra Mūrniece and the Minister of Finance Dana Reizniece-Ozola. They also met with representatives of the Latvian media, such as Pauls Raudseps from Ir.lv, Inga Sprinģe from ReBaltica, and Ilze Dobele from LNT news. The future leaders also had discussions with the Ombudsman of the Republic of Latvia Juris Jansons, and the former President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers.
At the conversation festival LAMPA, the future leaders had the opportunity to present their vision for Latvia in the next 100 years at the Swedish tent. It is possible to watch their presentation at LAMPA here: http://straume.lmt.lv/lv/konferences/konferences/Latvija-jauniesa-acim/1024866
The Director of the “Future Leaders Academy”, Dr.sc.pol. Ieva Birka was very impressed with the solutions the future leaders of Latvia presented to problems commonly encountered in Latvia, and hopes that the graduating class of 2018, in cooperation with the alumni of the program from 2017, will work together to bring about positive change in Latvia.
