What happens after you graduate from the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga)? The three-year BSc Programme in Economics and Business provides a broad education in economics and business administration, with opportunities for specialization in the final year in the following areas: economics, finance and retail. Entering the job market is an exciting but challenging task. Here we present the findings of the latest placement survey of our recent graduates.

Approximately one-fourth (27%) of Class of 2017 graduates found their placement through a regular job advertisement, while 13 percent of the graduates were offered a job after completing their internship, proving their skills and knowledge in a professional environment.

An absolute majority of graduates are now employed, i.e. within 5 months of graduation, and many found a job even before graduation.

Overall, graduates are employed in a wide range of fields, including auditing & consulting; banking & finance; IT or other technologies; advertising & marketing or PR; wholesale & retail; and manufacturing. Traditionally SSE Riga graduates are in high demand in the financial industry and the most popular industries among SSE Riga’s graduates appear to be banking & finance and auditing & consulting. Over the last few years, IT or other technologies has also become a popular choice for graduates. Five months after graduation job satisfaction is very high and an absolute majority are satisfied with their current placement.

Right after graduation most graduates end up working in the finance and economics departments of their companies. According to the data of the survey, the main reasons for choosing a certain placement among SSE Riga’s graduates are a chance to continue learning on the job (16%), the aim of gaining experience in a particular field (14%), and career development possibilities (14%), followed by the content of the work and the company’s reputation.

The most common positions among recent graduates are analyst, specialist and junior manager. Right after graduation the majority find jobs at large companies where the total amount of employees exceeds 250. Small and medium-sized companies are less popular. The majority of SSE Riga graduates decided to work in their home countries.

SSE Riga conducted the Placement Survey of the Class of 2017 in November 2017. The aim of the survey was to evaluate the career outcomes of SSE Riga graduates five months after graduation. The results are based on the anonymous participation of 55 graduates.
