On December 22, 2016, Morten Hansen, Head of Economics Department at SSE Riga, was re-appointed for the second term to serve in the Fiscal Discipline Council of Latvia.
The Student Association (SA) of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga is a student representative body, unifying members and providing an environment for their development. The calendar year serves as both the beginning and the end of a single SA Board’s term. Elected in January, it welcomes its successors in the final event of the year – the Christmas Ball. Therefore, this month serves as the finish line for the 22nd SA Board.

Two SSE Riga graduates receive an award for their research at the Australasian Finance & Banking Conference
On December 15th, 2016, SSE Riga graduates Laura Malceniece and Karlis Malcenieks (both are Class of 2013 graduates) received the Best Paper Award at the 29th Australasian Finance and Banking Conference (AFBC), organised by the Institute of Global Finance and the School of Banking & Finance, UNSW Business School, Australia.
The SSE Riga IV 2016 competition brought together 40 Latvian students, 20 Latvian teachers and more than 180 participants from 23 different countries
Around 235 people attended the first day of the event, making it one of the biggest IV tournaments led by the students of the SSE Riga Debate Society.
Notwithstanding the attempts of policymakers to arrange the business environment and make it more favourable, no substantial improvements have been seen during the last 12 months and the attractiveness of Latvia in the eyes of investors is still not improving.
The Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga) Mixed Choir has won the Grand Prix in the 26th International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music Competition for choirs, which took place in the end of November in Prague.

On November 4th, 2016, the SSE Riga Alumni Association organized a special gala evening to celebrate the notable accomplishments of SSE Riga alumni and the 22nd anniversary of SSE Riga. It was a great honour to have the fourth President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves as a special guest at this event; he talked about the importance of voluntary associations and the role of civil society.
This year’s Homecoming marks the 20th anniversary of the SSE Riga Alumni Association. It also marks that 20 years have passed since the first graduates left SSE Riga with diplomas in their hands. Today the SSE Riga alumni community comprises almost 2 500 graduates from the B.Sc. and Executive MBA programmes.
The Entrepreneurship School in Liepaja finished on October 27th with presentations of 12 business ideas at the pitching event “Bear’s Cove”.

The 10th Annual Scientific Baltic Business Management Conference will take place in Riga on April 27-29, 2017. This year the international conference will focus on topic “Sustainable Organisations: Creating and Managing in a Turbulent Business Environment”. The conference is co-organized by three higher education institutions in Latvia – RISEBA University, BA School of Business and Finance and the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.
