Enhancing Health Care Performance: Understanding its drivers and how to best manage them

Dr. Monica Franco-Santos in her sessions will help participants to critically review the usefulness and appropriateness of performance management practices in health care institutions.

  • The good, the bad and the ugly of performance management in healthcare
  • Understanding the organizational theories behind performance management systems
  • What is a directive, an enabling and a hybrid performance management system? Which one is best for us?
  • Linking pay to health care professionals’ rewards: Is it a good idea?
  • What are the new trends in performance management?

The sessions will include brief presentations, active and critical discussions and short exercises.


About the lecturer

Dr. Monica Franco-Santos

Monica is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Organizational Performance in Cranfield University (UK). Her research broadly focuses on organisational governance systems. In particular, her work examines the design, implementation, and use of performance management and measurement systems as well as the impact that these mechanisms have on behaviour and decision-making.

Her research is widely recognised and has been founded by organisations such as the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (Investors in People, UK), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) or the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.

She is part of the research faculty of Cranfield University (School of Management), a visiting professor in ESADE (Barcelona, Spain) and an occasional lecturer in a number of European academic institutions. She is an experienced PhD, DBA and MSc supervisor.

Prior to joining Cranfield University, Monica worked for a leading global management consultancy. As a senior consultant, she worked with numerous companies from a variety of industries and sectors.

Her educational background includes a PhD in Management from Cranfield University; postgraduate studies on Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management from the University of Barcelona (Spain) and a BSc in Economics and Business Administration from the University Autonoma of Madrid (Spain). 


Participation Fee

Participation fee is 220 EUR+VAT or 110 EUR+VAT for the former participants of the Effective Healthcare Resource Management Programme
